Booking Tips for Montréal
Don't book the wrong version. In Quebec, centres also offer TEFaQ and TCF Québec, which are designed for Quebec immigration (MIFI). For federal Express Entry, you need TEF Canada or TCF Canada.

Which Test Should You Book?
For Express Entry and Canadian citizenship, book TEF Canada or TCF Canada — both are accepted by IRCC and convert to the same NCLC scale. Pick on availability and format: compare them in the TEF Canada guide and the TCF Canada guide.
- TEF Canada: 40 reading + 40 listening questions, 2 writing sections, 2 speaking sections.
- TCF Canada: 39 + 39 questions on an A1-to-C2 ladder, 3 writing tasks, 3 speaking tasks.
- Results are valid for two years — read how long TEF and TCF results are valid before booking too early.
Planning
How Far Ahead to Book
- 1Check your current level first with a free practice test and the NCLC calculator.
- 2Look at session dates on the centre's page right away — popular sessions can fill weeks in advance.
- 3Allow for results: centres generally quote several weeks before your certificate arrives.
- 4Work backwards from your Express Entry deadline, leaving room for a retake if you miss NCLC 7 in one skill.
