How the French CRS Bonus Works

On top of the regular language points, IRCC awards additional CRS points for French when you score NCLC 7+ in all four skills:

  • 25 points with CLB 4 or lower in English, or no English test.
  • 50 points with CLB 5 or higher in all four English skills.

Questions

NCLC Calculator FAQ

How do I convert my TEF Canada score to NCLC?

Each TEF Canada skill converts separately using IRCC's equivalency table. For example, 207–232 in reading, 249–279 in listening, and 310–348 in writing or speaking is NCLC 7. Enter your four scores in the calculator above to see each level.

How do I convert my TCF Canada score to NCLC?

TCF Canada reading and listening are scored out of 699 and writing and speaking out of 20. For NCLC 7 you need 453–498 in reading, 458–502 in listening, and 10–11 out of 20 in writing and speaking.

Are NCLC and CLB the same thing?

Yes. NCLC (Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens) is the French name for the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). IRCC uses the same 1–12 scale for French and English results.

How many extra CRS points does French give in Express Entry?

If you score NCLC 7 or higher in all four French skills, you get 25 additional CRS points with CLB 4 or lower in English (or no English test), or 50 additional points with CLB 5 or higher in all four English skills. These are on top of the regular language points.

Is this calculator official?

No. Frenchly is independent practice software, not affiliated with IRCC, CCI Paris Île-de-France, or France Éducation international. The calculator uses the equivalency tables IRCC publishes, but always confirm current rules on canada.ca before applying.
